Settle down? Or be wild and free? Quite the popular topic, most young adults are journeying through life and love -- often the two intertwine. Should we settle down and find love in our twenties or should we wait until we have life all figured out and we actually “find ourselves?”
In 2013, I worked as a counselor in a residential dual recovery program for substance abuse and mental illness in Frederick. I remember heroin being steadily on the rise. So much so, that police officers were responding to calls more frequently — sometimes my coworkers and I made the call. Drug use had become an epidemic, gripping our community in its grasp and leaving devastation in its wake. Families were torn apart, lives were lost, and the cycle of addiction seemed unbreakable.
