New Year, New Mile: Resolutions for the Golden Mile

New Year, New Mile! Now that January is wrapping up, let’s discuss the New Year Resolutions we have for the Golden Mile! Whether you’re a long-time resident or newcomer to the west side of Frederick, we all have our wish-list for things we’d like to see on the Golden Mile. Here’s ours!

1. Get a night life!

We deserve to have some fun too! Downtown Frederick does not have to be the hub of entertainment or social activities.

2.   Revitalize vacant storefronts.

Many of us have noticed the empty shops and buildings along the Golden Mile, and it’s time to breathe new life into these spaces. By attracting businesses and entrepreneurs to fill these vacancies, we can create a vibrant and thriving community hub where residents can shop, dine, and socialize.

3. Improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

With its bustling traffic and lack of designated pedestrian and bike lanes, navigating the Golden Mile can be challenging for those on foot or bike. We hope to see improvements in infrastructure, such as wider sidewalks, dedicated bike lanes, and safer crosswalks, to make the area more accessible and pedestrian-friendly.

4. Enhance green spaces and public parks.

Access to green spaces and recreational areas is essential for promoting health and well-being within our community. We would love to see more parks, playgrounds, and greenways along the Golden Mile, providing residents with opportunities for outdoor activities and relaxation.

5. Foster a sense of community.

The Golden Mile has the potential to be more than just a commercial corridor; it can be a place where neighbors come together to connect and build relationships. We envision community events, festivals, and gatherings that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of our neighborhood, fostering a strong sense of belonging and unity among residents.
