A Rally for Peace: Islamic Society of Frederick Brings Community Together

In the midst of Israel-Palestinian conflict, a powerful demonstration of solidarity and rally was organized by the Islamic Society of Frederick, highlighting the ongoing siege of Gaza. The protest, which drew a diverse crowd of community members, aimed to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and call for a ceasefire from the Israel-Gaza war and an end to the blockade that has been in place for over a decade. The Islamic Society of Frederick, a prominent local organization, took the lead in organizing this event, demonstrating their commitment to social justice and human rights.

The protest was marked by heartfelt prayers and a strong sense of unity among the attendees. The speakers, which included local community leaders, religious figures, and activists, shed light on the dire conditions in Gaza, where the ongoing bloodshed has led to climbing death tolls on both sides. They called on the international community to take immediate action to end the siege and alleviate the suffering of the people.

The rally was not just a demonstration of solidarity with the people of Gaza, but also a call to action for the local community. The organizers urged participants to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza, lobby their local representatives, and support organizations providing humanitarian aid to the region. The protest served as a powerful reminder of the role that local communities can play in advocating for global justice and human rights.

On Sunday, the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ included both parties in its weekly prayer service.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

There has been so much pain both in the people in Israel and Gaza and for our Frederick Neighbors of Kol Ami, Beth Sholom, and the Islamic Society of Frederick. While we know that some of our interfaith community are not ready to pray with one another, we want to create a space to pray for one another.

It is our desire to offer solace to both our Jewish and Muslim neighbors who might wish to attend, as well as offer a place for our community to pray for peace and reconciliation together. To that end, we are organizing a Love Our Neighbor Prayer Service for Peace, Shalom, Salam to take place this Sunday, October 22, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Evangelical Reformed UCC’s Sanctuary, 15 West. Church St. Frederick.

This is a chance for us to come together as we share our love and God’s love with our neighbors who have friends and family in the region or other ties to Israel and/or Palestine as they experience pain, isolation, and even fear. It is a time to pray for healing and urge that no harm is done to our Frederick neighbors by anyone in our community. It is a chance for us to acknowledge our short-comings in honoring God’s covenant with us and to ask for God’s forgiveness and assistance in reconciling us to one another in order to bring about healing and peace. The event is open to everyone in Frederick and will include prayers, lighting candles, and writing / posting prayers.
