Embracing Light: “Unpacking Anger” by Alexis Becker

Delve into the life and career of a therapist, author, and founder of Embracing Light Counseling Services, Alexis Nichole Becker.

The journey into therapy began in 2019 when she moved to Pennsylvania and started college full time for social work. As Alexis was learning about social problems, psychology, and therapy, she was also sorting through her own personal issues. She believes that therapy is a tool that can create sustainable and transformative growth but knows it is a privilege and not as accessible as it should be. This experience solidified her desire to become a therapist.

Born and raised in Frederick, Alexis has always felt a deep connection to her roots. Her parents, who are pastors involved in the community, gave her a unique small-town experience. Although she currently resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, she always makes sure to visit her favorite spots in Frederick whenever she comes home.

Her book and video series, “Unpacking Anger,” focuses on the often overlooked emotion of anger. Alexis believes that anger is not the problem, but rather the lack of understanding and teaching on how to process and respond to it. She hopes that through her work, she can help at least one person grow in their understanding and handling of anger.

Embracing Light Counseling Services is an organization Alexis started in September with the goal of building a therapy practice with multiple therapists, mental health professionals, social workers, and partners. Although she is currently licensed to provide therapy to residents of Pennsylvania, Alexis also provides life coaching services out of state on issues such as anger management and life transitions.

As an author, she finds writing to be both an art and a science. She believes that writing allows her to explore hard topics in a gentle way and gives her readers the chance to learn and grow at their own pace.

The key takeaway from her work, Unpacking Anger, is that anger is normal and has a story to tell. By accepting and processing emotions without judgment, one can heal their relationship with anger and see improvements in every area of their life.
