Soul Street Farmer’s Market

Soul Street, a new community for black-owned businesses, introduced Frederick’s first black-owned farmer’s market.

In partnership with the Common Market Co-op, Soul Street hosts a monthly farmer’s market that creates space for black business owners to congregate, sell their products and services, and meet new customers. Although produce was the most popular item, other vendors were available selling merchandise like candles, spices, clothes, and desserts. The Black Church Food Security Network (FSN) and Black Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) helped contribute to local black farmers getting exposure and opportunities. The organization puts emphasis on “shopping black,” a phenomenon that encourages strengthening the black economy and circulating the dollar in the black community to support small businesses and their families.

The next farmer’s market is scheduled for July 21st. #KnowYourFarmer #ShopBlackFrederick
