Organizer Theresa Harrison planned the first annual Frederick Sneaker Ball at the Talley Recreation Center on Saturday. The motto? “Where Fashion and Sneaker Culture Meet Philanthropy.”
“Chuck Taylor’s are sleek and comfortable! I grew up with them. Chuck Taylor All-Stars have continued to prove their iconic status through their use and portrayal in politics, sports, community, film, art, and music culture.”
Led by the curated tunes of DJ Shantay DeMar, patrons enjoyed fellowship, dancing, special guest appearances, hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, raffle prizes, and sneaker contests.
“Hardest part of my day is picking the right pair.”
– Shaynon, Frederick Sneaker Ball Committee Member
The purpose of the Sneaker Ball is to raise $10,000 to support Frederick youth development and empowerment programs. Beneficiaries of a portion of proceeds include I Believe in Me INC., a local nonprofit for youth advancement, local cancer societies and academic scholarship providers. Many black owned businesses were in attendance to support the local cause and community.
